There’s something comforting about a sign.
You’re unsure about a relationship, and suddenly you see their name somewhere. You’re questioning a decision, and the clock reads 11:11. You’ve been thinking about changing your life, and a quote appears at exactly the right moment.
It feels like the universe is whispering, Keep going. You’re on the right path.
And maybe sometimes it is.
But what happens when the universe goes quiet?
When Spirituality Becomes Waiting
There’s a strange trap hidden inside spirituality: we can become so focused on receiving guidance that we forget we’re allowed to make decisions ourselves.
We wait for synchronicities.
We wait for angel numbers.
We pull another tarot card.
We ask for another sign.
Then another.
Eventually, something that was supposed to help us connect with ourselves can become another way of avoiding uncertainty.
Instead of asking, “What do I want?”
We start asking, “What does the universe want me to do?”
There’s an important difference.
Spirituality should deepen your relationship with yourself—not remove you from the driver’s seat of your own life.
Intuition Doesn’t Always Feel Magical
We sometimes expect intuition to arrive dramatically.
A dream.
A coincidence.
A powerful feeling in our chest.
Some undeniable moment where everything suddenly makes sense.
But intuition can be incredibly ordinary.
Sometimes intuition is simply:
I don’t want this anymore.
Or:
I think I need to try.
No fireworks. No repeating numbers. No mysterious song appearing at the perfect moment.
Just a quiet knowing.
The problem is that quiet knowing requires trust.
And trust is much harder than looking for confirmation.
Are You Looking for Guidance—or Reassurance?
This is a question I’ve found worth asking:
Am I actually looking for a sign, or am I looking for permission?
Sometimes we’ve already made the decision internally.
We just don’t trust ourselves enough to act on it.
So we outsource the decision.
We tell ourselves that if one more synchronicity happens, we’ll finally move forward.
But then it happens…and somehow we need another.
At that point, we’re no longer following intuition. We’re feeding uncertainty.
There will always be another interpretation available if you search long enough.
Eventually, you have to choose.
Maybe Free Will Is Part of the Spiritual Experience
What if the universe isn’t supposed to tell you everything?
What if some doors remain unmarked because choosing one is part of becoming who you’re supposed to become?
We often talk about being “on the right path” as though somewhere in the universe exists a perfect timeline that we’re desperately trying not to mess up.
But perhaps there isn’t one perfect path.
Maybe there are thousands.
Some will teach you through joy.
Others through heartbreak.
Some decisions will work beautifully.
Others will leave you wondering what the hell you were thinking.
But you’ll learn.
You’ll adjust.
You’ll become wiser.
You’ll choose again.
That is life.
You Are Allowed to Move Without Confirmation
There will be moments when everything seems connected.
Embrace them.
There will be synchronicities that stop you in your tracks.
Appreciate them.
There will be experiences you cannot logically explain.
Stay curious about them.
But don’t become so obsessed with receiving messages from the universe that you stop living inside it.
Sometimes there isn’t going to be a sign.
Sometimes the person isn’t going to text.
Sometimes the opportunity won’t magically fall into your lap.
Sometimes you’ll stand at a crossroads with absolutely no idea which direction is correct.
And you’ll have to choose anyway.
That isn’t spiritual failure.
That might be spiritual maturity.
Because eventually spirituality becomes less about constantly asking the universe:
“What should I do?”
And more about becoming someone who can quietly say:
“I don’t know exactly where this leads—but I trust myself enough to take the next step.”
Maybe the universe doesn’t owe you a sign.
Maybe sometimes the silence is the invitation.
Not to wait.
Not to search harder.
But to choose.
