Calm Your Mind in Minutes: How to Practice Mantra and Mudra Meditation

Namaste, dear ones. Do you ever feel like you need a moment to pause and connect with your inner self amidst the chaos of daily life? In today’s fast-paced world, it’s essential to take a break and recharge our batteries. In this post, I’ll share a simple meditation technique that combines a mantra and a mudra to help you relax and find inner peace.

Mantra Meditation: The first step in this practice is to focus on the breath and use a mantra to quiet the mind. A mantra is a sound, word, or phrase that can help you concentrate and block out external distractions. For this practice, we’ll use the mantra “so hum,” which represents the sound of the breath and helps you connect with your inner self.

Find a comfortable seated position, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. As you inhale, silently say to yourself “so,” and as you exhale, silently say “hum.” Repeat the mantra for a few minutes, allowing the sound to guide you into a deeper state of relaxation.

Mudra Meditation: Now, let’s add a mudra to our meditation practice. A mudra is a hand gesture that can help channel energy throughout the body. For this practice, we’ll use the Gyan mudra, which is known to enhance concentration and memory.

With your hands resting on your knees, touch the tip of your thumb to the tip of your index finger, while keeping the other three fingers extended. This is the Gyan mudra. As you continue to repeat the mantra “so hum,” visualize the energy of your breath flowing through your body and into your fingertips.

Combining Mantra and Mudra: to complete the practice, let’s combine the mantra and mudra. Sit in a comfortable seated position and close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths, and then begin to silently repeat the mantra “so hum” to yourself. As you repeat the mantra, bring your hands into the Gyan mudra. Visualize the energy of your breath flowing through your body and into your fingertips.

Continue the practice for a few minutes or as long as you like. When you’re ready to finish, take a deep breath in and exhale fully. Gently release the mudra and open your eyes.

Incorporating a meditation practice into your daily routine can help you feel more centered and calm. By using a mantra and mudra, you can deepen your connection to your inner self and cultivate inner peace. Try this practice whenever you need a moment to pause and connect with your true essence. May you find peace and love on your journey.
